The Principles That Define ID Krav Maga

Updated: 20 hours ago

In a world where violence is unpredictable and often without warning, having tools to survive is critical. But at ID Krav Maga, we believe survival is not just about technique. It’s about identity, intention, and the responsibility that comes with knowledge.

Krav Maga is not a sport, not a tradition, and not a philosophy in the abstract sense. It is a practical, adaptable, and evolving system rooted in reality. Its efficiency comes not only from the way it's practiced — but from the principles that guide its use, instruction, and purpose.

This is why ID Krav Maga is founded on three core categories of principles: General Principles, System Principles, and Specific Principles. Each one shapes a different part of our identity — who we are, how we train, and how we respond when it matters most.

General Principles

Defining Who We Are as Practitioners

Before learning how to fight, a student must learn how to carry themselves — with humility, ethics, and responsibility. These general principles serve as the foundation for character development in Krav Maga. They are non-negotiable values shared across every training level, from beginner to expert.

▪️ Be Humble

Humility keeps ego out of the training space. It allows learning to take place, respect to grow, and wisdom to lead. A humble student becomes a better practitioner — and a better human being.

▪️ Be a Good Person and a Good Citizen

Krav Maga is taught to empower people, not to intimidate others. Our practitioners are expected to contribute positively to their communities and uphold the values of justice, respect, and social responsibility.

▪️ Use Knowledge for Good

The skills learned in training must never be misused. Our students are taught to defend — not to provoke. To protect — not to harm. Power is only meaningful when used for the right reasons.

▪️ Respect Others

From fellow students to instructors to complete strangers — respect is the core of any type of relationship. Without it, no technique has value.

▪️ Always Learn and Improve

Krav Maga is a path of constant evolution. There is always room for refinement, for knowledge, for deeper understanding. True mastery means never assuming you’ve learned enough.

▪️ Be the Best You Can Be

We don’t compare students to each other. Instead, we ask each person to rise to their own potential. Excellence is personal — and it's expected.

▪️ Obey and Respect the Law

We do not train vigilantes. Our students understand that self-defense exists within the boundaries of the law. Knowledge must be paired with legal and ethical awareness.

System Principles

How the System Is Built and Why It Works

Krav Maga is not considered a martial art in the traditional sense. It is not based on ceremony, lineage, or form. Instead, it is a practical and evolving system designed to protect life in real-world situations. The following principles guide its structure and methodology:

▪️ Quality Above Quantity

A single technique executed with precision and timing is more valuable than ten poorly understood movements.

▪️ Knowledge Above Rank

A belt is only fabric unless it’s backed by skill, understanding, and behavior. Ranks can never replace real knowledge, and we expect our practitioners to prove their ability, not just wear it.

▪️ Techniques Must Work for Most People, Against Most People

Our system is not designed for athletes or elite fighters alone. It must be accessible, teachable, and effective for men and women, old and young, strong and weak.

▪️ Attack Vulnerable Points

In a real confrontation, we don’t rely on brute force. Instead, we teach efficient responses that exploit anatomical weaknesses — eyes, throat, groin, knees — to neutralize a threat quickly.

▪️ Be So Good You Don’t Need to Kill

True mastery includes restraint. We teach students to be efficient enough to control a situation without escalating it unnecessarily. Our power lies in our ability to end a fight without excessive harm.

▪️ Avoid When Possible; Fight When Necessary

De-escalation is a form of victory. We train to avoid conflict when we can — and to dominate it when we must. Awareness, prevention, and avoidance are the first layers of defense.

▪️ Don’t Get Hurt

Surviving means coming home safe. Our techniques prioritize minimizing injury to the defender — physically and psychologically.

▪️ Don’t Be a Victim

We train for control, awareness, and readiness. A Krav Maga practitioner is taught to take back power — not only in physical encounters, but in mindset.

▪️ Krav Maga Has No Rules

There are no points, no rounds, no judges. In the street, there is only the attacker and the person trying to survive. We prepare our students for that reality.

▪️ Everything Can Be Used as a Weapon

We teach students to use the environment, nearby objects, and instinctive tools. Adaptability is key. If it’s around you — it’s usable.

▪️ Emphasis on Self-Defense as a Value

Krav Maga is not about looking for fights. It is about defending life, dignity, and others when no one else will. This is not only a system — it is a responsibility.

Krav Maga: A Responsibility Beyond Self-Defense

Specific Principles

How We Act in the Moment of Truth

When violence becomes unavoidable, decisions must be made in seconds. These specific principles guide our tactical behavior in real-time. They are built on clarity, speed, and decisive action.

▪️ 200% defense and thats not a matematical mistake.

The idea is 100% hand or leg (limbs) defense and 100% body defense - that means that i move the attack out of the line and i move the target out of the line. Your defense must be total. A half-hearted block can cost your life. We train with the mindset that our lives — or someone else’s — are on the line.

▪️ Counterattack as Soon as Possible

We don’t wait. The safest way to survive an attack is to interrupt it — immediately and aggressively. Defense and offense are taught as one.

▪️ The Problem Is the Attacker — Not Just the Attack

We don’t just block strikes. We target the source. The attacker must be neutralized quickly to prevent further harm.

▪️ Don’t Stay on the Ground

While we train to defend ourselves on the ground, we teach students to get up as fast as possible. The longer you’re down, the more danger you’re in.

▪️ Protect Yourself. Protect Others

We are not just responsible for ourselves. Krav Maga prepares us to defend the innocent, intervene when necessary, and act as protectors in a dangerous world.

Final Thoughts

ID Krav Maga is far more than a collection of techniques. It is a complete system built on a foundation of values, responsibility, and resilience — not only in combat, but in life.

Our principles are not optional additions or abstract ideals. They are woven into every class, every technique, and every decision made by instructors and students alike. From the very first training session, these principles are taught as inseparable from the physical practice. They shape how we move, how we respond, how we teach, and how we lead.

At ID Krav Maga, we do not train just to fight — we train to think, to act with intention, and to protect with purpose. These principles ensure that the power we develop is used ethically, responsibly, and in service of others when needed.

In a world where violence can erupt without warning, these values remind us that self-defense is not only about surviving the moment. It is about preserving our integrity, protecting those who cannot protect themselves, and standing for what is right — even when it is difficult.

This is what it means to train with us.This is what it means to represent ID Krav Maga.Because ultimately, we are not just defending ourselves —We are defending what matters most.
